Ariellah Ariellah performs tribal fusion and gothic belly dance all over the bay area and the United States. She has studied and performed belly dance for the past five years, both with Janine Ryle of Danse Mahgreb and as a founding member of The Indigo with Rachel Brice. She also studied classical ballet with the Royal Academy of Dance from London for 12 years. Her style infuses Middle Eastern, American Tribal Style and cabaret belly dance with Indian and Flamenco overtones, all with a modern, very dark, unique flavour. She was most recently featured on the first of its kind “Gothic Belly Dance” DVD.

SooozhyQ Susanna Goldenstein, otherwise known as “SooozhyQ” started studying Middle Eastern percussion in 1994 and performing regularly in 1997. Based in SF, she has also performed in L.A, San Diego, Portland and Eugene OR, and New York City. She loves working with belly dancers, having played for 9 years at Amira Restaurant in San Francisco for amazing soloists Nanna Candelaria, Aliena, Jill Parker, Elizabeth Strong, Zoe Jakes, and Rachel Brice. At Amira she has accompanied many talented musicians such as Mary Ellen Donald (her first Middle Eastern percussion instructor), Mimi Spencer, Nazir Latouf, Susu Pampanin, Faisal Zedan, Reda Darwish and Vince Delgado. She has a strong passion for blending traditional Middle Eastern rhythms with electronic dance music/culture. She collaborates regularly with Amar, a vibrant member of San Francisco’s world influenced DJ culture and co-founder of Electric Vardo, and is a resident of fantastically fun Triple Power monthly party with co-founders Giamma and Shanti. SooozhyQ is also a former member of the Strong Current Dance Company, an all woman modern dance company performing works that comment on women’s roles through a feminist perspective, and has performed with Anne Bluethenthal and Dancers, also a modern dance company, committed to cross-cultural collaboration and to creating dance that is women identified, spiritual, passionate, and inclusive of all its member voices.

Tempest Tempest is an artist, designer, dancer, and writer currently based in the Bay Area of California. Although she enjoys studying what tradition has to offer, Tempest loves exploring the dance through unusual music and creative costuming, pulling on her visual arts background to "paint a picture" with the dance; engaging the audience through dramatic embodied storytelling, passionate expression, and sensuous, mesmerizing movement. She finds inspiration for her dances in many eras, places, and faces, from ancient cultures and spiritual myths worldwide, to the work of silent film star and original vamp Theda Bara, and turn-of-the-century dance goddess Ruth St. Denis. She is most well-known for her Gothic Belly Dance performances and instruction, and is featured on the first ever GBD performance DVD produced by WorldDanceNewYork entitled “The Darker Side of Fusion” and her new instructional DVD “Bellydance for Beautiful Freaks”. Amar Amar is amongst a handful of local DJs whose taste As a DJ and promoter, he has collaborated and shared the bill with some of the Bay Area's & world's most innovative Musicians, DJs and dance troupes including DJ Dragonfly DJ Sep, Janaka Selekta and the Dhamaal Sound System Cheb i Sabbah, Soulsalaam, Ultra Gypsy, Urban Tribal, Dhol Rhythms, Nitin Sawhney, Lorin, Nader, Unmata, Midival Punditz, Shabaz, Sila and the Afrofunk Experience, SooozhyQ, Beats Without Borders, State of Bengal, Karsh Kale and others. Zoe Jakes An innovative dancer, Zoe has been said to have her own unique take on Tribal bellydance. She has had the honor of performing with Jill Parker, Aziza, Liz Strong, and was a member of the Suhaila Dance Company in 2001. Currently she is performing with Bellydance Superstars, The Yard Dogs Road Show, and The Indigo. As a child, Zoe studied ballet and jazz, later on in life thanking her mother for making her go, as it proved to be essential in her career choice. Zoe has been bellydancing non-stop since she saw her first bellydancer in 2000. She was a part of the esteemed Bay area Troupe Aywah!, performing at numerous venues in the San Francisco Area and becoming familiar with folk dance from many regions around the world. Her interpretation of bellydance is enhanced by Classical indian Kathak, which she studied at the shool of Chitresh Das. Mavi Mavi is a Washington, DC-based belly dance artist known for sensual grace and compelling presence. She has shared the stage with national and international acts, including the Peter Murphy, the Dresden Dolls, and Corvus Corax. With her partner Belladonna, she performs and teaches with the tribal fusion dance company Romka. Mavi is also a member of DCTribal, a collective of tribal belly dancers.

Unmata Multi-award-winning belly dance fusion troupe based in Sacramento, CA, Unmata was formed in 2003 by Hot Pot Studio's artistic Director Amy Sigil. Unmata is Shelly DeCant, Luna Taylor, Casey Staub, Tina Boyer, Kristina Zajic, Kari VanderZwaag and April Rose Wilson. Unmata's teamforce is known for extreme choreography layered within inventive movement, and for tapping into an unmistakeable divine inebriation on and off stage. Amy and Unmata have taught workshops and performed nationwide at events such as last year's Spirit of the Tribes and Domba's Tribal Mania II in Arizona. In 2005, Amy judged for pageant competitions such as Belly Dancer of the Year and Enchanted Camelot. Each year at Halloween, Unmata hosts The Blood Moon Regale, Sacramento's largest weekend of workshops, dance fellowship, and a fully produced showcase of student and professional dancers. "UNMATA", a Sanskrit word meaning "divine inebriation," is a collection of urban tumbleweeds inspired and dedicated to the art of fusion in dance.

Shawna Rai Shawna Rai of NatyaHara has over 15 years experience in the performing arts. She has been a member of esteemed dance troupes such as Invaders of the Heart, Ultra Gypsy, Haruspicy DanceCraft, and briefly traveled with the Bellydance Superstars Tribal collective headed by Rachel Brice. Currently Shawna teaches and performs IndoTribal Fusion in addition to collaborative projects with dance artists.

Frederique Frèdèrique began studying American Tribal Style belly dance in February of 1997 with Jill Parker of Ultra Gypsy. After performing as a core member of Ultra Gypsy for almost 3 years, Frèdèrique steered her endeavors in a new direction and founded Romani Urban Tribal Belly Dance in 2000. Romani was a professional belly dance troupe that pioneered and popularized the underground electronic Middle-Eastern / Indian flavored music used by most tribal, tribal fusion, and tribe-aret belly dancers today. In December of 2003, Romani disbanded and Frèdèrique formed a dance collaborative named Belly Groove while regularly performing and teaching workshops around the U.S. Frèdèrique is known for her unique style (Tribal Remixed) and innovation as well as and her music editing and mixing skills. Clandestine Beth and Sue of Clandestine celebrate 10 years of dancing together this fall, having gotten their start in groundbreaking troupes Ultra Gypsy and Romani Urban Tribal Belly Dance. Together now with partners Rachel and Amy, Clandestine performs a sassy, infectious style of tribal fusion belly dance infused with hip hop and bhangra flavors.

Tanja Odzak A natural at belly dance who is known for her fiery stage presence, Tanja has been belly dancing professionally for four years. She was an active choreographer and dancer in Ultra Gypsy when the renowned dance company received the prestigious Golden Belly Award for “Troupe of the Year” in 2005. Currently, Tanja is an independent dancer and performs as a soloist or with belly dance colleagues.

Kush Arora Born and Raised in the Bay Area, KUSH grew up with a love of percussion as well as experimental, punk, and electronic music. He took part in various groups and record labels, playing alongside folks like Big City Orchestra, Blevin Blechdum, Wobbly, and being a core member of RecordLabelRecords: Fluorescent Grey, and the Great White Hype. All the while, his love for dancehall and dub and Punjabi music and culture grew and became more of his focus. In 2004, Underwater Jihad was released, unleashing his signature style of warped Punjabi and reggae into a noisy blend. Kush Arora productions was formed shortly thereafter, and a string of releases followed featuring unusual and wild vocalists such as N4SA from JA, and Sukh Sing on Punjabi vocals alongside a host of talented tabla players and strings from around the globe.

DJ Layla DJ Layla - a rare gem who will transport you into a divine realm of sound and space - takes her mixes to another level with the storylines she creates using music as her muse. She has a natural talent and way to mesmerize the dance floor with her sultry beats, silky smooth segues and vibrant depth of energy that enraptures your soul and body. Layla began her musical odyssey behind the decks in 2000 as DJ Velo. In 2003, she began her study of Middle Eastern dance, finding her way into tribal style, which awoke her connection with ancient sound & movement, which she ever-so-sweetly mixes with modern dance floor rhythm. Layla’s current musical style proudly reflects her Middle Eastern heritage by incorporating the organic feel of Arabic and Indian musical traditions into her sets. Still not wanting to be pinned down or categorized, Layla’s musical collection is ever expanding further into the realm of “worldtronica.” Layla is capable of uniting energies together and bringing up the temperature of a room whether she is throwing down dance-beats on a crowded club dance floor or setting the soundscape for a steamy tribal dance performance with some of the worlds’ most renowned tribal dancers. |

Mara Ann & DJ Traffic M.Mara-Ann is a writer, performer, intermedia artist, and San Francisco based spirit lifter who's love of crossing-breeding elegant genres with exacting strains of delicious hybridity include the book lighthouse (Atelos 2002), CD Luminous (AtmoWorks 2006) with composer ambientPortal (Mykl Neufeld), mixed media work TWO falling standing (Washington Pavilion 2006), improvised voice performance with UPPTEKA (four vocalists and a dj), and the live MovieTelling piece The Beginning Return -- a short 7 minute film located in a fictional future where everyone can smoke inside again, shamans work tirelessly to lure incarnating spirits back to earth, and the entire cycle of samsara seems at risk due to effects of pollution that have ravaged earth’s natural environment (live sound by musician-writer Travis Ortiz).
