VOTE JOYCE ROY
for the At-Large Seat on the AC TRANSIT Board
THE REFORM CANDIDATE, CANDIDATE
FOR CHANGE
Why it is Time for Change at AC Transit?
At a time when transit ridership around the country is increasing
because of high gas prices, and when people are finally recognizing
the role of transportation in air quality and the production of greenhouse
gases, AC Transit is moving backwards. This can be traced to their
“special partnership” (in the words of the General Manager)
with a Belgium bus manufacturer, Van Hool. This partnership has been
driving AC Transit’s decisions.
Platform
For AC Transit to live up to it’s stated mission: AC Transit’s
mission is to provide safe, convenient, courteous and reliable transit
service, as well as their recently adopted policy of increasing ridership.
Qualifications
Joyce Roy has been a transit activist for over 12 years and has
served on many boards and committees involving transit and environmental
issues and has brought her perspective as a retired architect to these
organizations.
Ballot Statement
See what AC Transit and the incumbent don’t want voters to
know.
Endorsements
From labor and environmental groups and individuals who actually
ride buses.
BRT-lite
A proposal for faster, more reliable service on trunk lines without
removing traffic lanes and parking.
GHG (Greenhouse Gases) and Air Pollution
The vehicles AC Transit is putting on the streets has ‘street
appeal’ but are very rider unfriendly and so discourages people
from getting out of their cars and onto the bus. Their costly, ineffective
hydrogen fuel cell program is mostly PR, that is, hot air.
News Media
AC Transit usually receives little scrutiny from the press. AC Transit
itself has generated most published articles. But beginning in February
2007, the press has been reporting on the agency’s actions and
has revealed an agency that is fiscally irresponsible and unresponsive
to the needs of riders and drivers.

Measure VV
Vote for Measure VV, but………..
See why riders hate the low-aisle Van Hool buses
and like the low-floor bus produced in America.
